MEN & WOMEN PROJECT

While societies may instruct men and women to fulfil gender roles and expectations this project demonstrates that how we are expected to be is not always who we are or want to be. The MEN and WOMEN project is a portrait documentary which focuses on people over the age of eighteen; from varying ethnic, cultural, socio-economic and social backgrounds. This project highlights each individual’s interpretation of themselves, how they want to be portrayed as well as the differences, but more importantly, the similarities between men and women. This was achieved by allowing each subject to decide how they would like to be photographed, where they would like to be photographed and what they wanted to do within their portrait. In this way, Christopher controlled only the technical aspects of each photograph thereby maximizing the photographic potential of each portrait. The portraits included within this book encompass a subsection of MEN and WOMEN who represent humanity as creative, humorous, successful, pensive and loving. If these images evoke contemplation, nostalgia, appreciation or an opinion this project has accomplished its goal – to make you think.
